JioHotstar Streaming Service Goes Global With Launches Across UK, Canada & Singapore

India's JioStar has taken its JioHotstar streaming brand global, launching the service in the UK, Canada, and Singapore. The rollout, which began on September 2, replaces the existing Hotstar service in those three markets and introduces a redesigned app with upgraded interactive and user experience features.

The international expansion brings JioHotstar's catalog of more than 160,000 hours of entertainment across over 12 Asian languages to new audiences. Subscribers in the three markets will also gain access to personalized recommendations and new subscription options as part of the launch.

At launch, the service will offer Hotstar Originals, including series such as Asur and Pritam &, alongside other programming from the streamer's library. The move signals JioStar's ambition to compete beyond its home market, where JioHotstar has established itself as a leading streaming platform.

The expansion goes beyond a straightforward catalog rollout. JioStar has positioned the launch as an introduction to a redesigned service, with the interactive features and user experience upgrades serving as key differentiators in competitive streaming markets like the UK and Canada, where global players such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video dominate.

Singapore, a regional hub for media and technology, offers JioHotstar a strategic foothold in Southeast Asia, where demand for Asian-language content continues to grow. The service's multilingual catalog, spanning more than 12 languages, is expected to appeal to diaspora communities and local audiences alike.

JioStar, a joint venture formed from the merger of Reliance Industries' media assets and Disney's India operations, has been consolidating its position in the Indian streaming market. The international launch follows a period of integration that brought Hotstar's existing subscriber base under the JioHotstar brand.

The new subscription options introduced in the three markets are designed to cater to different viewing habits, though specific pricing tiers were not detailed in the announcement. The interactive features, which were highlighted as a major upgrade, are expected to enhance viewer engagement with live events and original programming.

With this launch, JioHotstar joins a growing list of regional streamers expanding internationally as they seek new growth avenues beyond saturated domestic markets. The company's focus on Asian-language content and interactive experiences could help it carve out a niche in markets where Western-language services have traditionally held sway.
