«The Odyssey» Becomes Universal's Highest-Grossing Film Ever

Christopher Nolan's «The Odyssey» has become the highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures' 114-year history, overtaking the previous record held by 2015's «Jurassic World». The Matt Damon-led epic reached $1.684 billion at the global box office by the end of its weekend, edging past the $1.677 billion total that «Jurassic World» earned during its entire theatrical run.
Universal announced the milestone on Saturday. The film's domestic earnings are set to reach $601.2 million, while its international tally stands at $1.083 billion. The achievement comes less than two months after the film's release, a remarkably short window for a box office record of this scale.
«The Odyssey» has been a dominant force since it debuted, drawing audiences worldwide with its combination of star power, large-scale spectacle, and Nolan's reputation as a director of ambitious, event-level cinema. The film's performance has been particularly strong internationally, where it has already crossed the $1 billion mark, a threshold few titles reach in their entire run.
The record it breaks is significant. «Jurassic World», directed by Colin Trevorrow, was itself a phenomenon when it opened in 2015, ultimately grossing $1.677 billion globally and revitalizing the Jurassic Park franchise for a new generation. That film held Universal's top spot for over a decade, a testament to both its broad appeal and the difficulty of surpassing such a massive hit.
