Taylor Swift Makes Surprise Cameo in Emmys 'Law & Order: SVU' Sketch
Taylor Swift appeared in a pre-taped comedy sketch during the 2026 Emmy Awards, joining host Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson to joke about whether the pop star would show up at the ceremony.
Taylor Swift made an unannounced appearance at the 2026 Emmy Awards, popping up in a pre-taped sketch alongside host Mariska Hargitay. The bit, a playful homage to Hargitay's long-running role as Detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, turned the question of whether Swift would attend the ceremony into a mock investigation.
The sketch opened with Hargitay's Benson rallying her team to crack a pressing mystery: would Taylor Swift show up for a cameo at the Emmys? «In order to crack a Swiftie case, you got to think like a Swiftie because the Swifties think that everything is a clue to what she'll do next,» Hargitay said, analyzing possible connections between the singer and the night's nominated shows. As the team began to lose hope that there was enough evidence to justify a cameo, a voice off-screen chimed in: «Hey guys, this isn't adding up.» The camera then panned to Swift, dressed in a business suit, who added, «Our perp has a clear M.O… A lot of this doesn't fit the pattern, and I don't think everything is a clue.»
Swift continued the gag by naming Taylor Swift-inspired evidence, including «Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard.» As the case drew to a close, Benson ultimately declared that «Taylor Swift will not be at the Emmys,» but «maybe she's going to do one of those cool pre-taped sketch things to support the host.» The moment was shared by NBC Entertainment on social media with the caption «Taylor Swift is wanted at the Emmys.»
The cameo was a reunion for Swift and Hargitay, who have been friends for years. Hargitay joined Swift on her 2015 1989 tour, appeared in the 2014 music video for «Bad Blood,» and was in the crowd for Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour in 2024. The two have also named their cats after one another — Swift named a cat after Hargitay's character Olivia Benson, while Hargitay named her cat after the Swift song «Karma.» More recently, they were seen together watching the New York Knicks at the NBA Finals, and Hargitay attended Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce in July.
The 2026 Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14, saw Widow's Bay, The Pitt, and DTF St Louis among the big winners. Noah Wyle won Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second consecutive year for The Pitt, defeating Sterling K. Brown of Paradise, Gary Oldman of Slow Horses, Mark Ruffalo of Task, and Rufus Sewell of The Diplomat. Apple TV+'s breakout comedy horror series Widow's Bay earned 19 nominations, with lead actor Matthew Rhys making history as the first person to win Emmys in two Lead Actor categories in the same year. Hacks star Jean Smart also made history, becoming the first woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for every season of her show's run.
Swift's appearance at the Emmys follows a busy period for the singer. She released her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl, last year, inspired by her experience on the Eras Tour. The album became the best-selling album of the year in the UK, making Swift the first artist to have the top seller in consecutive years for different albums since ABBA in 1977. Since its release, Swift has become the youngest female artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, enlisted Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi, and Cillian Murphy for her «Opalite» music video, and filed to trademark her own voice and image amid growing concerns about AI. She also donated $26 million to 20 charities across the United States ahead of her marriage to Travis Kelce earlier this year, and more recently donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe page to help a mother who was hit by a car.
