Laika Unveils Limited 4K SteelBook Edition of Wildwood on Amazon Preorder
Studio Laika has announced a limited-edition 4K SteelBook release of its fantasy animated film "Wildwood," which will go on sale through Shout! Studios.
Studio Laika has announced a limited edition of its fantasy animated film "Wildwood" in a 4K SteelBook format. The release is distributed by Shout! Studios, and preorders are already open on Amazon. The two-disc set includes a 4K UHD and a Blu-ray, allowing viewers to watch the film in ultra-high definition as well as in standard Blu-ray quality.
The announcement came roughly two weeks after the film's theatrical premiere. "Wildwood" is Laika's latest work in the stop-motion fantasy genre, a studio known for films such as "Coraline," "Kubo and the Two Strings," and "Kate." For a studio that has bet on handcrafted stop-motion animation, physical media remains an important way to keep interest in its films alive after theatrical release.
The size of the limited print run is not specified: sources do not say how many copies will be released. The release date and price of the set have also not yet been announced. Information about the Amazon preorder is confirmed by a Variety report, which noted the product's appearance in the marketplace's catalog.
The SteelBook format features a metal case with artistic design, which appeals to collectors. Editions like this are often released in limited batches and sell out quickly, so those who want to buy the set should watch for announcements about the date it goes on sale.
