Disney is expanding Rick Riordan’s mythological universe on screen with a live-action series adaptation of «The Kane Chronicles» now in development at Disney+. Riordan will create the series alongside Angela Robinson, known for her work on «How to Get Away with Murder,» «True Blood,» and «The L Word.»

The project is based on Riordan’s trilogy, which begins with «The Red Pyramid» and continues through «The Throne of Fire» and «The Serpent’s Shadow.» The books follow siblings Carter and Sadie Kane as they discover their connection to ancient Egyptian magic and face off against gods and monsters from Egyptian mythology. The series marks another step in Disney’s ongoing partnership with Riordan, whose «Percy Jackson and the Olympians» books have already been adapted into a successful live-action show on the streaming platform.

If the project receives a series order, Robinson will executive produce and write alongside Riordan. Robinson brings a background in both drama and genre television, having worked across several acclaimed series during her career. Riordan, who has become one of the most prominent authors in young adult fiction, has been actively involved in the screen adaptations of his work, often serving as a creative force behind the projects.

The «Kane Chronicles» adaptation has been discussed for years, with fans of the books eagerly awaiting news of a visual treatment. The trilogy, published between 2010 and 2012, was conceived as a companion to Riordan’s more famous «Percy Jackson» series, sharing a universe where multiple mythological traditions coexist. The books were also adapted into a graphic novel series and an audio production, but this marks the first attempt at a live-action version.

Disney+ has become the home for Riordan’s literary adaptations, with the «Percy Jackson» series drawing strong viewership and critical attention. The streaming service has invested heavily in fantasy and adventure programming aimed at family audiences, and the «Kane Chronicles» fits squarely within that strategy. The development comes as Disney continues to mine popular book properties for original series content, particularly those with built-in fan bases.

No casting announcements, production timeline, or premiere date have been revealed. The project remains in early development, with a series order not yet confirmed. Riordan’s involvement suggests the adaptation will aim for fidelity to the source material, a priority that has defined his previous work with Disney on «Percy Jackson.»

The «Kane Chronicles» series would add another strand to Disney’s growing portfolio of Riordan-related content, potentially setting the stage for crossovers between the «Percy Jackson» and «Kane» storylines, which the books themselves hinted at. For now, fans of Egyptian mythology and Riordan’s signature blend of humor and adventure will have to wait for further updates on the project’s progress.
