Dolly Parton’s Team Unveils Posthumous Project Roadmap, Including Broadway Musical and Avatar Show
Dolly Parton’s representatives outline a slate of posthumous projects, from a Broadway musical opening on her 81st birthday to an avatar show, ensuring her legacy continues for decades.
Dolly Parton’s team has revealed a detailed roadmap of projects the late country icon left behind, promising fans a steady stream of music, experiences, and entertainment for years to come. In an email sent Wednesday, Parton’s representatives outlined several upcoming releases, including a Broadway musical, an avatar show, and a range of lifestyle products, all of which she was actively developing before her death on August 25 at age 80.
Parton, who died following a brief battle with cancer, was working up until her final day, according to her longtime manager Danny Nozell. “Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked, for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come,” Nozell said in a statement. “As the leader of the team responsible for overseeing her legacy, we will ensure the many dreams she had yet to fulfil are brought to life.”
Among the most anticipated projects is “DOLLY: A True Original Musical On Broadway,” set to open on January 19, 2027, which would have been Parton’s 81st birthday. The musical is one of several entertainment ventures in the pipeline, alongside a Dolly avatar show, a biopic, a docuseries, and a scripted series, with further details expected soon. Parton had been exploring “avatar performances” as a new way to connect with fans, a concept she was reportedly developing in the months before her death.
Beyond the stage and screen, Parton’s team listed a host of lifestyle and hospitality projects that were active at the time of her passing. These include Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stops, the Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel, Dolly Dolls, and the Dolly’s Life Of Many Colors Museum, which is scheduled to open on September 29. She was also working on a coffee brand called Dolly’s Cup Of Ambition Coffee, Dolly’s Dog Treats, and Dolly Bedding & Home Decor.
Nozell emphasized that fans can trust the authenticity of these releases. “If you see unreleased music, products, books, experiences, and campaigns launched through official Dolly Parton channels, you can have confidence in knowing that she placed her personal stamp on it,” he said. The statement was part of a broader effort to be transparent about the many projects in various stages of development at the time of her death.
Parton’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from figures across music, politics, and culture, including Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Oprah, and Barack Obama. President Donald Trump ordered flags across the U.S. to be flown at half-mast for a full week in her honor. The singer, known for hits like “Jolene” and “Coat Of Many Colors,” was celebrated as a unifying force in a divided world, a legacy her team now aims to carry forward through the projects she left behind.
