Filipino-Australian electronic pop artist Daine has been featured as this week’s star of The Cover, the ongoing series spotlighting emerging musicians. To accompany the profile, Daine curated an exclusive playlist titled ‘I Believe In You’, filled with left-field electronic tracks from artists including M.I.A., The Femcels, Babymorocco and Loukeman. The playlist also features past Cover artists Sophia Stel and Chanel Beads, as well as Aldn, who appeared on Daine’s most recent single ‘I Used To Kill’.

The feature arrives ahead of Daine’s debut album ‘In Endless Awe And Agony’, scheduled for release in November. The project marks a significant milestone for the artist, who was first tipped by NME in its 2021 NME 100 list. Since then, Daine has earned a collaboration with Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes, a cosign from Charli XCX and a major label contract. Looking back, Daine describes that earlier period as one of creative indecision, feeling pulled in different directions while trying to figure out their next move.

Now signed to the indie label Pack. Records, Daine has been teasing the full-length with the singles ‘PQC’, ‘Love Love (Love Love)’ and ‘I Used To Kill’. The new material reflects a more stripped-back and personal approach, both sonically and visually. Daine told NME that they wanted to feel more human in their music and aesthetic, moving away from heavy vocal distortion and Auto-Tune in favor of a more natural sound. “I’ve peeled back these performative layers,” they said. “Now I’m just human, which is weird.”

The Cover series produces 50 profiles each year, pairing in-depth interviews with exclusive photoshoots of emerging artists from around the world. Daine’s feature was written by Alex Rigotti and photographed by Dean Podmore. The playlist ‘I Believe In You’ is available to stream on Apple Music and Spotify.
