CBS Sets 30th Anniversary Special for «Judge Judy» With Celebrity Tributes
CBS will air «Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable», a 90-minute primetime special celebrating three decades of the highest-rated court show in American television.
CBS is marking 30 years of «Judge Judy» with a primetime anniversary special featuring tributes from Steven Spielberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Amy Poehler and other prominent figures. The 90-minute program, titled «Judge Judy: Unfiltered, Unforgettable», is scheduled to air Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on the network and will stream live on Paramount+ Premium.
The special is timed to the series debut in the fall of 1996, when Judy Sheindlin brought her sharp courtroom style to television audiences. Over the following three decades, the show became the highest-rated court program in American television, a run that cemented Sheindlin as one of the most recognizable figures in daytime TV and, later, in syndicated programming.
According to the network, the anniversary broadcast will look back at memorable cases and moments from the show’s long history while featuring interviews and tributes from celebrities who have appeared on the bench or followed the series over the years. The guest list includes Spielberg, Jackson and Poehler, alongside other figures from entertainment and public life whose names have not yet been disclosed.
The special arrives at a moment of renewed attention for Sheindlin’s brand of courtroom television. After «Judge Judy» concluded its original syndicated run, Sheindlin launched a new arbitration-based series, and her library of episodes continues to draw substantial audiences in reruns. The anniversary program is positioned as both a retrospective and a celebration of the cultural footprint the show has left on American television.
For CBS, the special also serves as a ratings play in the fall season, pairing a nostalgia-driven format with a roster of high-profile guests. The network has not released additional details about the structure of the program, such as whether archival footage will be paired with new interviews or if Sheindlin herself will appear in newly filmed segments beyond the tributes.
«Judge Judy» originally premiered in syndication in September 1996, with Sheindlin, a former family court judge from New York, presiding over small-claims disputes. The show’s format — real cases, binding arbitration and Sheindlin’s no-nonsense rulings — proved durable, and it consistently topped the ratings in its genre for most of its run. At its peak, the series was drawing millions of daily viewers and became a staple of daytime schedules across the country.
The anniversary special is scheduled to air during a competitive fall TV window, and CBS is expected to promote it heavily in the weeks leading up to the broadcast. Paramount+ Premium subscribers will be able to watch the program live as it airs on the East Coast, with the special also available for streaming after the initial broadcast.
