Archetype Media Finance launches to back indie films budgeted $5M to $25M

A new Los Angeles-based film financing venture, Archetype Media Finance, is launching with a focus on independent projects budgeted between $5 million and $25 million. The company is among the newest entrants seeking to fill the financing gap for mid-sized films that are too large for micro-budget producers yet often fall outside the reach of major studios.
The venture is spearheaded by Matthew Shreder, founder and CEO of film sales company Concourse Media. He is joined by producer Tyler Condon, whose credits include the series Chief of Station, and former Tubi and Legendary executive Tim Hebard. Their combined backgrounds span independent production, international sales and streaming distribution, a mix the company is positioning as central to how it evaluates and places projects.
Among the first projects connected to the fund are films starring Nicolas Cage and Lucy Hale. The source material for this report highlights those titles as early examples of the slate, reflecting the kind of genre-driven and star-led independent work the financing model is designed to support.
The launch arrives as the independent film sector continues to adjust to a financing environment in which traditional sources of capital have grown more selective. Mid-budget projects in particular have struggled to find buyers and backers, which has pushed producers to seek out specialized financing partners who understand both the production process and the sales and distribution side of the business.
Industry context from the same news cycle points to continued activity in the independent space. Separately, FilmLA has extended its Low Impact Permit Pilot Program for Los Angeles through April 30, allowing qualifying productions to keep saving an average of roughly $1,000 per permit. More than 400 Low Impact permits have been issued since the program launched in April, aimed at productions with minimal impact on surrounding residents. The extension matters for smaller shoots that rely on lower-cost location logistics.
Elsewhere in the film business, Paris and New York-based impact studio Koudéta Films has acquired French distribution rights to Palestinian director Hosam Abu Dan’s « Thirteen in Gaza », a father-daughter drama described as the first film shot in the Gaza Strip since the Israel-Hamas war began in 2023. Mad World, the international sales arm of Pan-Arab distributor Mad Solutions, is handling the film’s sales, ahead of its presence at the Doha Film Festival.
The independent market also includes international co-productions. Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi’s musical horror film « Rooh » has added Tips Films and Tips Music to its producing team, with Kumar Taurani boarding the project ahead of a 2027 theatrical release across the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu markets. Mayank Sharma directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Vishal Kapoor, and Tips Films presents the picture.
For Archetype Media Finance, the immediate test will be whether its early slate converts its financing model into completed films that find distribution. The company’s launch with named stars and established sales and streaming executives signals an effort to give budget-conscious independent productions a more predictable path from financing to market.
