Britney Spears raised eyebrows Friday when she stood through the sunroof of a moving car on a busy Los Angeles freeway, just months after a DUI charge against her was dropped. The 44-year-old singer was spotted fully upright in the sunroof of a black Mercedes SUV as it traveled at about 45 mph on the 101 freeway near Studio City, according to images published by the Daily Mail.
Spears, wearing a nude dress with her blonde hair blowing in the wind, remained standing for roughly two minutes before the vehicle exited the freeway and pulled into a nearby gas station, the outlet reported. A source told the Daily Mail that Spears only went through the sunroof for a quick moment to check on the level of traffic ahead after the cars came to a stop.
The source added that Spears did not intend to do anything wrong and that she used to do this as a child growing up in the South. She enjoys feeling the warm wind in her hair during summer and is in a good place, the source said. The incident comes after Spears was arrested in March on suspicion of driving under the influence in Ventura County.
According to documents obtained by Fox News Digital, Spears told California Highway Patrol officers she was an angel and could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you before her arrest. She refused an alcohol screening test, and officers later found a bottle of Adderall in her purse that was not prescribed to her, as well as an empty wine glass in the cupholder between the front seats.
The DUI charge was dropped in May after Spears pleaded guilty through her lawyers to what is commonly called a wet reckless, a lesser offense. She was sentenced to fines, 12 months of probation, and time served, and must complete a DUI course. The plea offer was standard for defendants with no prior DUI history, no crash or injury on the road, and a low blood-alcohol level, the county district attorney’s office said.
District Attorney Erik Nasarenko stated that Spears took responsibility for the misdemeanor offense by entering a guilty plea at the earliest stage, two months after her arrest. A representative for Spears confirmed to Fox News Digital at the time that she voluntarily checked herself into a treatment center following the arrest.
The sunroof incident has drawn attention on social media, with some questioning the safety of standing in a moving vehicle. California law prohibits riding on the outside of a vehicle, including standing through a sunroof, as it can be considered an unsafe practice. Spears has not publicly commented on the incident as of this writing.
