A third participant has died at Burning Man 2026, with a 60-year-old man found deceased in his trailer at the Nevada festival site. The death marks the latest in a series of fatalities during this year's event, which concluded over the weekend of September 7 in the Black Rock Desert.
The Pershing County sheriff's office confirmed the discovery but has not released further details about the circumstances. Officials stated that additional information will be shared following autopsies and toxicology reports. Local authorities have indicated they do not suspect foul play in any of the three deaths that occurred during the week-long gathering.
The first fatality was reported on September 3, when a man in his mid-50s was found on the ground at the festival and received CPR for several minutes before being pronounced dead by a doctor. The following day, the Washoe County regional medical examiner's office confirmed that a 51-year-old man had been transported by ambulance from the site to receive medical care and later died in Reno.
A Burning Man spokesperson expressed sadness over the losses, noting that the participant who experienced a medical emergency in the early hours of September 4 received immediate on-site lifesaving measures before being transported to Reno for further care. Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen told the Reno Gazette-Journal that while the festival typically averages one death per year, two had occurred within the event's confines this year, with a third reported during transit to a Reno hospital.
The deaths come during a challenging edition of the festival, which faced disruptions from heavy rain and dust storms throughout the week. Another attendee was seriously injured after falling from the 55-foot Nest Tower at the Square One camp earlier in the week. Authorities also reported 34 arrests for alleged drug sales or trafficking as of Friday morning, along with one arrest related to domestic violence.
Data from the Black Rock City Census indicates a demographic shift among attendees, with fewer participants in their 20s and more over the age of 40. The percentage of visitors in their 20s dropped from 30 percent in 2014 to 10 percent in 2025, according to the report.
Last year's festival drew headlines following the fatal stabbing of 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov at the site, a case in which no arrest has been announced. Burning Man organizers have made around-the-clock peer and crisis-support resources available to attendees affected by this year's deaths.
