Sam Jaeger and Ariel Winter to Lead Hallmark Drama Change of Heart
Hallmark has cast Sam Jaeger and Ariel Winter as series regulars in its upcoming drama Change of Heart, set to premiere in 2027. Rachel Boston, Julie Gonzalo, and Kevin Vidal round out the main cast.
Hallmark has tapped two familiar television faces to anchor its next original drama. Sam Jaeger, known for his role on Parenthood, and Ariel Winter, who spent eleven seasons on Modern Family, will lead the cast of Change of Heart as series regulars. The network has slated the series to premiere in 2027.
The casting pairs Jaeger, whose recent credits include a recurring role on The Handmaid's Tale, with Winter, a fixture of primetime comedy whose voice work includes the animated series Sofia the First. Both actors bring established fan bases from long-running network hits, a factor that Hallmark has increasingly leaned on as it builds out its scripted slate.
Joining them in the main cast are Rachel Boston, Julie Gonzalo, and Kevin Vidal. Boston is familiar to Hallmark audiences from The More the Merrier and previously starred on Witches of East End. Gonzalo has appeared in Supergirl and Dallas, while Vidal's credits include Workin' Moms and Culprits. The three additions round out a core ensemble that blends romantic-drama experience with broader comedy and genre work.
Change of Heart marks another step in Hallmark Media's expansion of its original programming, which has moved beyond its traditional holiday-movie model into year-round series. The company has been steadily greenlighting dramas designed to compete for viewers who might otherwise turn to streaming platforms for serialized storytelling. Casting recognizable television veterans is a central part of that strategy.
For Jaeger, the role continues a busy period that has seen him move between prestige drama and network television. His turn on Parenthood, which ran for six seasons on NBC, made him a familiar presence in family dramas, while The Handmaid's Tale placed him in a darker, awards-friendly context. Winter, meanwhile, remains closely associated with her role as Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, a show that concluded in 2020 after eleven seasons and more than 250 episodes. Her post-Modern Family work has included voice acting and independent projects.
Details about the plot of Change of Heart have not been released, and it is not yet clear when in 2027 the series will debut or how many episodes the first season will contain. Hallmark has not announced a production start date or filming location.
The series will add to a crowded field of new dramas competing for attention in the coming years, as broadcast and cable networks continue to invest in recognizable talent to cut through a fragmented television landscape. Hallmark's decision to announce the cast well ahead of the premiere suggests the network intends to build anticipation over a long runway.
Boston, Gonzalo, and Vidal each bring their own followings to the project. Boston has been a regular presence in Hallmark's romantic dramas, while Gonzalo's work spans superhero television and prime-time soap. Vidal, a Canadian actor, has built a career in comedy series and streaming thrillers. Together, the ensemble gives Change of Heart a mix of tones that could shape the series in ways the network has not yet detailed.
For now, the announcement confirms only the cast and the broad premiere window. Further information about the show's creative team, episode count, and story is expected to follow as production moves forward.
