Three days after fans crashed the wrong wedding, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez quietly married in Cascais and posted their rings.
The internet got Cristiano Ronaldo’s wedding wrong before it got it right. On Aug. 8, fans packed the area around Funchal Cathedral on Madeira because a rumor said Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez were getting married there. Another bride and groom emerged instead. Ronaldo saw the viral confusion and responded with laughing emojis.
Three days later, the real wedding happened with far less noise. Ronaldo and Rodríguez married in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, a coastal town near Lisbon, on Aug. 11. His representatives described the day as intimate and said the couple’s five children attended. The newlyweds then gave followers one image to work with: a close-up of their hands wearing wedding bands.
The caption was just “C❤️G.” No red carpet. No immediate dress breakdown. No celebrity seating chart. No dramatic reveal of a location that fans could rush. For a couple whose vacations, jewelry and family photos routinely become international content, the restraint was almost the most surprising part.
The date itself rewards anyone who keeps celebrity timelines. Exactly one year earlier, on Aug. 11, 2025, Rodríguez announced their engagement on Instagram. That post centered on a giant oval diamond and effectively started a 12-month guessing game about the wedding. The new photo replaces the engagement spectacle with something much simpler: two bands and a married status.
Their relationship goes back much further. Ronaldo and Rodríguez have been together since around late 2016, after meeting in Madrid while she was working at a Gucci store. By early 2017 they were appearing together at major public events. In the years since, she became a global model and media personality, while Ronaldo’s career took the family through different clubs and countries.
The couple have two living daughters together, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda. In 2022, Bella’s twin brother, Ángel, died during childbirth. They raise five living children in their blended family, and all five were with them at the Cascais ceremony. That detail shifts the story away from pure celebrity spectacle: this was a wedding inside a family that had already existed for years.
The Madeira mistake now feels like a strange pre-credits scene. Hundreds of people were ready to watch a huge public moment that did not exist, while the actual ceremony happened days later with the doors effectively closed. Ronaldo, 41, is still very much an active athlete. He recently played in a sixth World Cup for Portugal and continues his club career with Al Nassr. After almost a decade with Rodríguez, the couple managed to make one of their biggest life events feel almost private — and then let a pair of rings deliver the punch line.
