Noah Wyle named People’s 2026 Sexiest Man Alive
Actor Noah Wyle has been named People’s 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, a title he says he never expected, as his work on HBO’s The Pitt continues to draw acclaim.
Actor Noah Wyle has been named People’s 2026 Sexiest Man Alive, marking his first time claiming the magazine’s annual title. The honor, announced on Tuesday, October 27, adds a new milestone to a career that has spanned more than three decades in television, beginning with his breakout as Dr. John Carter on NBC’s ER in 1994.
The recognition arrives during a period of renewed attention for Wyle, who plays Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in HBO’s medical drama The Pitt. The 55-year-old actor told People that he initially assumed the announcement was a prank. “I thought that sounded like a prank — just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me,” he said.
Wyle answered the news with humor, joking that the title might usher in a more glamorous chapter of his life. “I hope this changes everything. I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out,” he said, adding that he expected plenty of teasing from friends and family. He also acknowledged that he remains uncomfortable with some aspects of fame, explaining that he enjoys inhabiting characters but can feel self-conscious speaking as himself without a script.
Wyle’s path back to prominence has been closely tied to The Pitt, which premiered in 2025 and follows medical professionals working through the pressures of an emergency department in Pittsburgh. His performance has earned a Golden Globe for best performance by a male actor in a television drama series in 2026, along with consecutive Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2025 and 2026. The series has been praised for its intense portrayal of emergency medicine and the emotional strain on healthcare workers, and Wyle’s character blends dry humor with the exhaustion of leading a hospital team through demanding shifts.
His earlier work on ER also drew wide recognition. The NBC drama, which premiered in 1994 and concluded in 2009, became one of television’s most successful medical series and featured an ensemble cast including George Clooney, Anthony Edwards, Sherry Stringfield, and Julianna Margulies. During his run on the show, Wyle received three Golden Globe nominations and five Emmy nominations, though he did not win either award for the role.
Clooney recently offered a lighthearted endorsement of his former co-star. Speaking at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards in January 2026, Clooney joked about a “Sexiest Man Still Alive” issue and said he would nominate Wyle. “When I grow up, I want to be Noah Wyle,” he added.
Season three of The Pitt is scheduled to premiere in January 2027, with Wyle set to reprise his role. Wyle also spoke to People about his family’s reaction to the honor. He shares two children, Owen and Auden, with his former wife, Tracy Warbin, and a daughter, Frances, with his wife, Sara Wells. According to the actor, Sara was pleased with the recognition, believing his qualities as a husband and father reflected positively on him.
