Brazil's Globo, the largest media company in Latin America, has signed its biggest programming agreement to date with Netflix, an 18-title licensing package anchored by Walter Salles' Academy Award-winning film «I'm Still Here.» The deal begins rolling out in December and will continue through mid-2027, according to the companies.

The package comprises 14 feature films, three telenovelas and one television series, giving the U.S. streaming service a substantial slate of Brazilian productions. The agreement marks the widest collaboration yet between Netflix and Globo, which has long been the dominant producer of scripted entertainment in Brazil and a major exporter of Latin American content.

Rights vary by title. For «I'm Still Here,» Netflix has secured Brazilian rights only. Elsewhere in the package, the streamer has taken global rights to titles including «Vitória,» directed by Andrucha Waddington and starring Academy Award nominee Fernanda Montenegro. The split reflects the different international prospects of individual productions, with some titles positioned for worldwide release and others kept closer to home.

«I'm Still Here» has been the standout success of Globo's recent output. Directed by Salles, the film won the Academy Award for best international feature, bringing renewed international attention to Brazilian cinema. Its presence at the top of the Netflix package underscores how much the streaming deal leans on prestige filmmaking as well as popular serial drama.

The telenovelas included in the agreement represent another significant component. Globo's serial dramas have long been a cultural staple in Brazil and have built audiences across Latin America and beyond. Placing three of them on Netflix alongside a single TV series suggests the streamer is betting on the enduring appeal of the format with subscribers both inside and outside the region.

The timing of the announcement places the deal at a moment when global streamers are increasingly looking to local productions to drive subscriptions. Licensing established Brazilian hits offers Netflix a way to add recognizable titles without bearing full production costs, while Globo gains a wider platform for its catalog and a new revenue stream from its library.

For Globo, the agreement extends a strategy of monetizing its archive through international partnerships while retaining its position as Brazil's leading content producer. For Netflix, the package adds depth to a Brazilian catalog that has become central to its growth in Latin America, where local-language series and films have performed strongly.

The rollout will be gradual rather than immediate. Titles will begin appearing on Netflix in December, with the full slate expected to be available by mid-2027. Neither company disclosed the financial terms of the agreement.

The deal also highlights the growing international profile of Brazilian film. «I'm Still Here» has already carried Salles' work to awards audiences worldwide, and its placement at the head of the Netflix package signals that prestige cinema is now a key part of how Brazilian content travels abroad.

With 18 titles spanning film, telenovela and series, the agreement gives Netflix a broad cross-section of Globo's output and gives Globo its most extensive streaming partnership to date. The first titles arrive on the service in December.
