Emmy Rossum, best known for her role as Fiona Gallagher on the Showtime series «Shameless,» revealed on the podcast «Call Her Daddy» that she entered a secret marriage at age 21 after her then-boyfriend issued an ultimatum. Rossum explained that she had been dating Interscope music executive Justin Siegel for only a few months after they worked together on her debut album, «Inside Out.» In 2008, as she prepared to leave for six months to film the movie «Dragon Ball Evolution» in Mexico, Siegel allegedly presented her with a stark choice. «I don't know if the relationship is gonna survive the distance. So like, maybe we should break up or get married,» Rossum recalled him saying.

Those instincts proved correct. While Rossum spent six months filming in Mexico, her husband never visited. «It's also not that long of a flight. I don't know what … like everyone was very dramatic. I don't know. Like it's literally just like going – people go to Mexico for the weekend. Like what are we talking about?» she said. By the time production wrapped and she returned home, Rossum said it became «abundantly clear we weren't a match in any way.»
Eventually, Rossum had to tell her mother about the marriage, not to share happy news but to ask for help ending the relationship. «I told my mom, 'Hey, I'm breaking up with Justin and I need a lawyer.' And she was like, 'You did not.' And I was like, 'I did,'» Rossum recalled. Her mother, she said, mobilized quickly, helping her through the process. The divorce was finalized in 2010. Rossum told Cooper that her relationship with her husband and watching him be «the world's greatest girl dad» has been «the ultimate healing» from her troubled relationship with her own father. «My husband is so loyal and so kind and so giving and so everything I've really ever wanted,» she said.
