DIIV have announced a sprawling world tour for 2027 and released a new single, «Dare Me», ahead of their fifth studio album, «ZIRP!». The album is set for release on October 30 via Fantasy Recordings, and «Dare Me» is the fourth and final preview from the record. A music video for the track has also been shared.

The Los Angeles band have used the rollout to continue a more overtly political approach that began with their previous album, 2024's «Frog In Boiling Water». That campaign included a hoax appearance on Saturday Night Live, where the band were introduced by Fred Durst, a chaotic website filled with conspiracy theories, and live announcements suggesting a «creative partnership» with ExxonMobil. The tongue-in-cheek promotion carried anti-capitalist anger beneath its surface, a tension the band are now carrying into «ZIRP!».

Reviewers have singled out the record as the band's lightest and poppiest to date, even as it refracts the dystopian state of modern America. A.G. Cook produced the album. According to a review published by NME, the band first approached him with the idea of remixing their initial demos in the style of Andrew Weatherall on «Screamadelica», but Cook instead chose to follow DIIV on tour to understand what makes their live sound work. The review credits that approach with a stronger emphasis on hooks and melody, particularly on tracks such as «The Fountain» and «Dare Me», which place frontman Zachary Cole Smith's vocals at the front of the mix.

The title «ZIRP!» is taken from the acronym for zero interest rate policy, the US economic lever that the review says allowed tech startups such as Spotify and Uber to upend their industries at the expense of workers. Songs such as «Evangelizer» and «Trillions» carry the band's anti-capitalist themes openly, with the former referencing «Palantir-Pfizer collab pills» and «BlackRock master keys». The review describes the record as ultimately not nihilistic, pointing to solutions rooted in community and togetherness, and it links that outlook to the experience of Smith and his bandmates rebuilding his neighbourhood in Altadena after losing his home in the Los Angeles wildfires of the previous year.

The 2027 tour dates extend the band's reach beyond the album cycle, and the single's release positions «ZIRP!» as the band's most ambitious statement to date. Further tour details and dates were not included in the available material.
