CHVRCHES Announce New Album All the King’s Men and 2027 North American Tour

CHVRCHES are back with their first new album in more than five years. The Scottish synth-pop trio has announced that their fifth studio record, «All the King's Men», will arrive on January 22, 2027, through Futures Music Group. The band also unveiled a 2027 North American tour that will take them across the continent beginning in February.

The album follows 2021's «Screen Violence», which was written remotely and drew widespread acclaim. For the new record, Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty took a different approach, writing and recording during multiple intense three-week sessions in Glasgow. The result is 11 songs that explore the culture and history of Britain and Scotland, a subject the trio delved into after spending years living in the United States.

That shift in perspective was shaped in part by Doherty's frequent trips home to spend time with his mother. He found himself inspired by filmmakers such as Ken Loach and British artists like Massive Attack and Siouxsie & The Banshees, who never shied away from tackling social issues. Cook, who remained based in Scotland, began moving away from electronica and embracing acoustic instruments, drawing inspiration from Nick Drake, Bert Jansch and the Incredible String Band.

The album's tracklist includes «Roses», «Evil», «Adore You», «Overthinker», «Royal Blue», «Comedown Tomorrow», «Friend Of A Friend», «Three Out Of Five», «Conman», «Jamie's Prayer» and «Faith In Flying». The band debuted «Conman» during their set at Robert Smith's Teenage Cancer Trust concert series at London's Royal Albert Hall earlier this year. The song opened with a pulsing, industrial bass as Mayberry sang about a man made for the microphone and his nine lives dancing on the edge of a knife.

The North American leg of the tour kicks off on February 13 in Philadelphia at Franklin Music Hall and includes stops in Brooklyn, Washington, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Toronto, Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison. The run continues west through Boise, Spokane, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Oakland, San Diego and Phoenix before wrapping at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on March 14.

The band then heads across the Atlantic for a UK and Ireland leg in April and May, opening in Glasgow at the O2 Academy on April 23 and visiting Aberdeen, Dundee, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Norwich before a headline show at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 6. Tickets go on sale October 30 at 10 a.m. local time, with pre-sale tickets available from October 27.

Before the full tour, CHVRCHES will play an intimate homecoming show in Glasgow and another in London next week, with all proceeds going to charity. The band had hinted at a new album over the summer, and Doherty and Scott later said fans could expect it to be «the most fearless record» they have ever made. «It's going to surprise people, and I hope it's going to delight them and rip some faces off», Doherty said, adding that the album was 90 percent complete at the time. «It's quite hard, but not to the point where you won't recognise the band. It's still the same people and DNA.»

Since the release of «Screen Violence», the members have kept busy with side projects. Mayberry released her debut solo album, «Vicious Creatures», in December 2024. Doherty joined forces with CHVRCHES drummer Jonny Scott to launch the rave-indebted project The Leaving earlier this year, while Cook teamed up with former Sons & Daughters member Scott Paterson in 2022 to launch Protection.
